Any good independent tool stores/surplus shops to check out in Denver or Colorado Springs? I'm gonna be there the next five days and if theres anything good to check out I want to make sure I don't miss it.

Yup! I lived in Denver for 14yrs.

Best shop hands down is Charlies 2nd Hand Tools in the middle of downtown Denver. Tons of older tools, nice guys, good prices.

Take a look around then grab a bite to eat at Taco de Mexico or Biker Jims just around the corner.

If you are into Surplus places there is a fun one called Alameda Surplus, lots of strange stuff- just off i25/ Alameda south of downtown.

Here is my original post about Charlies-

(cant find the photos.... stupid Photobucket)

I never messed with the Springs, hated that traffic.

It's been 13 years since I lived there, but there is a decent one in Old Colorado City.

I was thinking there was one on South Academy BL, but no longer sure.

There are tons of pawn shops, everywhere, especially near the Military bases.

+1 for Charlie's. The proprietors, Steve and Ron are great guys. My daughter used to live in an apartment across the alley from them.

The other store that tarbellb suggested is actually Surplus Tools & Commodities. They are located at 1411 W Alameda Ave, Denver, CO. There is lots of interesting stuff there. I've been a customer for over 40 years. My dad used to take me there when I was a kid. Most of the tools are low end. However, there is a small amount of '40s era tools, complete with crusty cad plating. Oh yeah, check out the demilled bombs hanging from the rafters and in the parking lot across the street.

I just noticed that you are from Chicago. If you start going through Chicago food withdrawal, then go to Chicago Style Beef and Dogs in Lakewood (a suburb west of Denver).
