Ive drooled over hundreds of peoples shops on this forum now it's finally happening. My wife and I purchased this property in June of 2017. It had been owned by a trust and rented by the same people for 20ish years. As you can see they "didn't have enough warning to clean up." I shoveled and scooped with a tractor 11 dump truck loads of garbage from the grounds of the property. The original barn was sadly not salvageable. It was however deconstructed by a local barn wood company for re use. FINALLY there is a replacement 40x60 pole barn going up. It will have a 20x14 roll up door and due to the header almost 17 foot eves. Im very excited and happy with the work that is being done. We farm and are in harvest now so updates may be slow but I will keep with it.

OK, you got rid of the ****. Now the barn is being erected, take satisfaction in seeing the progress. Plenty of time to get this dried-in before winter. What service for electric is planned?

Welcome! Too bad the old barn wasn't salvageable, as I love the shape, but the new building can be set up to suit your tastes. How about including a location of sorts so we know what part of the country/world you are in?

You picked a great title for this thread. I will never understand how people (as in this case the previous tenants) would let something get so out-of-hand. The good work you've done since taking ownership of the property has fortunately reduced that travesty of a mess into a memory. Good luck with harvesting season, and I'll look forward to your continued progress as your time allows.

I understand your pain . My wife and I purchased a farm last fall with many derelict buildings from an old dairy that was destroyed by Hurricane Hugo in ‘89. We are still assessing some to rebuild , salvage, or just let someone take them down to get rid of them. Will follow your posts with great interest.

Looks like the new place will be nice. Shame the old one was not salvageable. What a mess they left you.

Like everything else with the home site the electrical was not up to par. So I have new 300 Amp service for the shop that is currently sitting idle in a disconnect box or whatever you call it. I created a centralized utility shed on the property so that in the future I can have an onsite gen set to power everything from one location. It also has the water connections and previsions for phone and data cables.

Thank you. It is a shame. I am in Oregon, USA more specifically the southern Willamette Valley

Thank you very much. You should have seen the old house. It had as much or more garbage than the grounds. Thankfully the local volunteer fire department thought it was great to burn.

The amount of work is honestly depressing at times. Especially when you've done the majority yourself. Having this built by a contractor is a welcomed luxury

Thank you. Yes a mess and besides an old wood stove nothing and i mean nothing of value. The squatters who I had to kick out after the deal was done had even taken the malt liquor cans that weren't crushed!

Fingers crossed there will be tin on the sides tomorrow or the next!
