Cant quite get the pics to show but you can click on them and see.
So, I'm not an expert on the subject but as I was walking through a new construction home I noticed the location of these air vents in the upstairs area and it just didn't look right.
One has 3 outlets within 4' of each other on one end (kind of a hallway area) and the other has 2 outlets straddling the cold air return. That one really puzzles me as the conditioned air will never make it into the room, geting pulled into the return.
So am I crazier than normal?

Hard to say what's going on there.

One thing I'll mention is that it's not uncommon to use an HVAC vent as a cover for an access hole. Those vents may not actually be connected to any ducting.

They would vent into an uninsulated attic in this case. Still

Hot or heated air tends to rise. Cooler air will sink. It is very likely the return air will be taking the cooler air from along the floor.
Without seeing the space below the floor, it may difficult to access from another location.

So you've been in the attic then? If you know what's behind them why the thread?

I could only pull the door down enough to see that it was attic space. Couldn’t get up enough to get a good look.

Nice Mustang, btw.

I cannot say what they are trying to achieve here, so will not say it is wrong just because we do not understand it. It does seem like a lot of air to dump into a hallway, and I don't like that return right outside a bathroom or return grill mounted filters, but, again, I will not say it is wrong without more evidence. The velocity through a return grill is normally lower than the velocity exiting a supply register, so the return may not capture the supply air. Concentric diffusers were at one time ubiquitous in large open commercial installations (like retail and theaters) so there is plenty of evidence it works when done right.
