I see some really good design illustrations on this forum and on welding web forum. Is there a CAD for dummies or a cheap version that I could learn to use without a masters degree? Just home and hobby stuff for now but doing more all the time. I currently use paper and pencil, cardboard, duct tape, and chalk on the welding table top.
What software are you folks using?
Thanks

There are tons of CAD programs. Google's Sketchup is going to be your best free version as it has a strong following and plenty of tutorials (You Tube) and even books available (search Amazon).
For drawings of your projects, Sketchup will be fine. If you start getting into doing CNC work from your illustrations there are likely better programs.

A good or I should say great 2D Cad program that I use is DeltaCad. It's easy to learn, you can save programs in dwg., dc, dxf., and dxb. formats. You can also import and read "iges" files. If you go to www.deltacad.com, you can download a 30 day trial version. If you decide that you like it, I believe it is $40 and you can pay and download it right online. I've used it for probably 8 years now. If you decide you like it and have any questions, I'd be more than happy to help you out.

Only projects on the board right now is some ironwork gate and trellis stuff and a screened in sun porch. Some other metal projects but layout is simple enough for chalk sketches on the welding table again. Thanks guys, I'm a dummy with the tech stuff but I learn pretty good.
