Hello all!

Just had my building put up back in March and I'm finally looking to start designing the mezzanine I've always envisioned.

Barn is a 36x56x14. The area works out to about a 14x36' space or 504sq ft. This mezzanine will be used primarily for storage. I dont have plans at this time to have any equipment or be doing any major work up there.

First time really building anything like this so I dont know how to approach the design. From quick searches I found that I should target 125psf for "light storage" based on building code.

Any pointers to some material to read up on mezzanine designs would be appreciated.

125 psf is quite heavy. Just 10'x10' is over 3000 lbs on 4 legs live load, plus dead load.

I doubt you put piers or footings to support the mezzanine. I would advice to use a lighter loading based on what you described.

You are not getting a permit for this are you?

Do a rough sketch by hand someone can give you some accurate member sizes.
