Desmond Stephan vise questions

I've perused these forums extensively and not found out much about this Brand Vise.

I believe they stopped making vises in the late fifties early sixties but that's about it.

I just restored my first and was quite impressed with the quality.

I would love to figure out the age of this particular vise and wonder what they mean by "steel slide"...aren't all slides steel?

This particular model (31S) does not have the "steel slide" printed on it that many apparently do? I wonder if that makes it any earlier version or a later model.

No. Many are on the same casting as the moving jaw.

Without a date on the slide, I assume no way to determine the age

I just picked up one of these with a steel slide. If you remove, or at least extend the jaw, and flip it over, you can see the steel slide clear as day.

Any educated guesses on the age of this vise?
