Going into my 3rd winter with a 3 car pole barn, I use it primariilty as a race shop. As I get more into racing I spend more time out there and have more equpment out there during the frezzing cold winter.

Ive been using a torepedo heater (kerosene), doesnt seem to be a long term solution. I went down the path with a wood stove that I never installed as Ive read to much about it being a hassle, installation ect ect.

Aside from that electric is expensive.

So that leaves me with pelet or oil. With pelet I have to store them somewhere till i burn them, is see a mess.

That leaves me with oil, anyone using one? Can you use any type of oil? Who makes these heating units, are the expensive?

Thanks for any help.

Boiler, or air heater? If heater, apparently Toyo is hard to beat. Much like a Monitor, but a friend who owns/tunes both says the Toyo is way easier to maintain. Both have great track records and are highly efficient. Bopth apparently run best on #1 heating oil. Boilers abound by the zillions. Top of the line are Viessmann, Energy Kinetics, Burnham, etc.... and that statement will open a lot of discussion, I bet.

You already have a wood stove, will your homeowners be ok with it? Do you have access to firewood ?

I heat my garage solely with wood. I do have some time invested in cutting and splitting but it's good exercise. I can heat my garage all winter for around $100. I fire the wood burner on my 2 days off, and nothing on the third day (24 on/48 off work schedule). it builds heat in the concrete and radiates out on the off day, rarely gets below 45-48 degrees during the winter.

It is also a dry heat, which helps prevent moisture/rust.
