Detached Garage: installing baffles

i live in Chicago. Just build a brand new garage and I have two roof vents on the same side of my garage, no other vents. I'm using my garage for a woodworking shop. I'm installing durovent baffles, but when doing so do I go over the roof vents or stop before them? Also, if there's only two roof vents on the one side of the garage how does the other side or the rest of the garage ventilate since the 2x6's kind of enclose each rafter space. I'm doing this all myself so making sure I do it as correct as possible. It's a Hip roof. Hopefully the pictures show what I'm talking about. I obviously haven't finished but would like some wisdom.

I am curious what the intended outcome is going to be...

- spray foam under baffles covering everything
- (drywall or metal) on rafters for angled ceiling with bottom chords exposed
- flat ceiling (drywall or metal) parallel to floor

I'm going to drywall the walls only. So I can use the rafters above for light weight storage. Spray foam will go at the base of the baffles by the soffit. Insulation will go over the baffles.

My intended outcome is to keep it just warm enough in the winter to workout there.

I've never seen those used all the way up to the top.. when I did mine they were only used for the first row to keep the insulation out of the soffit..

You are not going to have any airflow unless you use a Ridge vent

Correct you need some space up there for air to travel out. Trusses are not for storage especially as lite as yours look. If it were me I'd say piss on the storage an poly an insulate properly so you have proper air flow. Or you'll contstantly have frost dropping on you.

The baffles are designed to allow air to circulate from soffit vents to ridge or roof vents without being blocked by insulation. Your approach will block all but two bays from being ventilated. Not good in your climate.

As Gypsy said, those vents are there to keep an open airflow between the soffit and the inside of the attic when you are using insulation.

Insulating on the ceiling like you have will not really do much except impede flow.

This is what they should look like in use...

I'm looking into the ridge vent. If it doesn't seem like the right play I'll do a ceiling and insulate that and only use the baffles to vent from the soffit, not all the way up. Thanks for the help
