Hi all,
In the planning stages of a new house/garage build and I'm hoping to get some feedback: things I should be thinking about and planning for, ideas of what people would do differently (already saw a good thread on this), etc.
As stated, it'll be detached from the house (connected by breeze-way...~ 12') and it'll house two cars, a side-by-side and a bunch of bikes. At 26'x36', it'll be tight....but I think I can make it work. The idea is to build a dedicated shop/barn in a few years so it doesn't make sense to future proof this one too much.
I have a bike lift and will add a car lift not too long after completion. I may put PEX in the slab for future heating, but I'm not sure yet. I may just use a wall mounted radiant heater.
Other things I'm currently thinking about:
Floor covering....I was reading up on epoxy options, what are the advantages of this over bare concrete? Is it mainly appearances and stain resistance, or does it actually protect the concrete a measureable amount?
Height of ceiling.....I'd like to go 12' to allow full lift, but I don't know yet how much cost that will add to the build and I'm not sure I need it. It'll also extend the stairs which might be a pain. My dad had a portable lift that only came up around 4' and that was fine. It would be nice to have the option of going all the way up though.
Door size and type.....the front will have to overhead doors and there will be one side door for the bikes and side-by-side. For the side door I was thinking about something that slides to keep cost down...but I'm not sure if I can get an opener for something like that and that would be handy.
I'll stop there....I tend to have posts that are way too long. I'm grateful for any and all comments.
