Bought our house in 2007 with the idea that I would always build a detached workshop. Many other projects took front seat (pool, kids playset. basement, etc). Well the time has come to sell the playset and start the garage. (FYI this projected started 11/2020.)

Good by playset

Playset gone, ready to start digging footings.
Two issues:
1.) The lot backs up to wet lands, so I couldn't bring up the grade....so I had to build a stepped foundation.
2.) The city only allows 900sqft...but I was able to negotiate an extra 100sqft.

My brother-in-law owns a tree trimming company and was willing to come and help me paint the overhangs.

lighting outside is completed along with installing the two garage doors.

1 x 16 x 10 insulated door
1 x 10 x 10 insulated door

First time installing garage doors. It was a big job, but fun to learn. Winding the springs wasn't as risky as I suspected. Had my helper ready when I was winding.

Got driveway extension formed up and poured. Like all things with this garage, had to shuttle from the road....but a bobcat made quick work of 8 yards

Finishing up the outside landscaping. Due to the wetlands ordinance I have a weird grade. So I had to build up the area around the side entrance door....which meant a retaining wall. I used some limestone pieces to build a pretty cool wall. Also got some 6A stone around the entire perimeter of the building.

Wow! This is an awesome build! I am subscribing now.

I apologize in advance, I'm sure I'll have tons of questions, so here goes!

How tall are the doors? They look phenomenal

What are the floor dimensions?

Which part of MI are you in (generic - ok if you don't want to answer)?

What is the attached garage on your house like? 3 car or so?

Makin' it happen! Looks really nice, I like that you took the time to give some style to the facade. A lot of guys just want to put up their box and start working in it. Kudos for making it look good.

Garage doors are 10' tall....so I can potentially fit a boat later in life.

Saint Clair, MI

3 car attached on my house.

Floor dimensions are 32 wide x 28' deep, but the 1-car bay is 35' deep

That's awesome. I would do some things for 10 foot doors.

Any insight on why you went with the staggered dimensions as opposed to something like a 33x30 the entire way? I presume its also to fit a boat on a trailer in the single bay

On to the inside:

Got all the electrical done. Installed 7 high-bay fixtures. 220V for Air Compressor and welder. Insulation arrived

Also got the rough plumbing done for the gas line.

The city I live in had a limit in SQFT....I wanted a 35' bay for a 30' boat.....this is the reason why I had to not just make a simple rectangle. It would have made my life a lot easier to build a rectangle. Everything was more complicated.

Drywall going up. 5/8' drywall in a 16' sheet is dumb, especially by yourself.

time for paint.

The back wall has 12' blocks, so there were some blocks exposed...used up some white tile from a home project to cap them off.

Also got furnace installed. Reznor 75,000BTU unit. So nice to have some heat in the garage now. Perfect timing as its getting cold out now.

That retaining wall and side entrance came out nice! Love the build, great work. I would have hired that drywall out LOL.

What lights did you use for your soffit lights? 3" or 4"?

After doing the drywall I agree….but I was over budget at that point….so I had to **** it up.

I used the 4” pucks for soffit lights.

Love the garage and tht workbench incorporating the tool boxes. Are we all caught up to real time now?
Yes, just doing some final touches. Washed my cars in there and got the hose setup ironed out
