One of my projects for this year is to get my garage organized much better

One of the things I'd like to get is a detail cart for my automotive stuff ...

Something I can roll out and use in the driveway (having all my stuff right at hand), then simply roll it back to a spot inside the garage.

So I've already looked at some of the local hardware / home improvement / harbor frieght kinda stores, but they don't have exactly what I would like, which is a 3 shelf cart.

Simple enough, don'tcha think ?

Except finding one that has the bottom / middle shelves tall enough to put a standard size spray bottle has been the problem.

like the looks of this one:

Don't mind if its metal or thermoplastic resin

I figure you need 10" - 12" in between shelves.

I have actually grabbed a spray bottle of some product they already have in the store (like Amor All for example) to see if I can fit it on the 2nd / 3rd shelf

Anyway

Do you have a detail cart ?

Where did you get it ?
Can you fit spray bottles on the 2nd and 3rd shelf ?<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

I use a 2 shelf cart for my detail cart. I hang all my spray bottles on the sides of the top shelf, put the non spray bottles on the top shelf and store my small shop vac on the bottom shelf. It works for me. Got the resin cart at HF.

Mines out in the garage and has 12" space between shelves. It is a 3 shelf Rubbermaid unit. Looks like this one. i don't use it anymore and it's just got boxes piled on it. i bought it back in 1997/98 and i know I didn't pay over $100 for it. it it prob way more than that now.

I actually looked specifically at those 2 at HF, but the spacing between the shelves is too small

I'll ck into the other ideas

I have a plastic Craftsman 2 shelf cart. I keep a toolbox full of small brushes, dressing applicators, clay, and other random tools on the bottom shelf along with a Rubbermaid tote for dirty towels. Top shelf is 3 buckets with grit guards stack in each other, tire and wheel brushes, foam gun, and hose nozzles. Spray bottles and concentrate gallons are kept on shelves until needed. Clean towels and polisher pads are in separate Rubbermaids.

this is something i've always wanted to do but never got around to.

how about a 2 or 3 drawer filing cabinet on casters. i think the drawers
are high enough but i'm not positive. dividers in the drawers to help
keep stuff upright.

i used to have a 2 drawer lateral filing cabinet on casters. it worked well
for a movable bench. i put a miter saw on top and had bulky tools in the drawers. saw, sander, drills etc.

i'm commited now. time to hit craigslist for a filing cabinet.

I bought a killer detail cart from Rebel Carts. They painted it my choice of colors and installed my logo on it. It really works great for dialing in my cars. The cart includes a built in vacuum plus an air compressor. It features lots of storage and looks great when not in use.

Check it out at: http://rebelcarts.com/

The guys at Rebel Carts are really easy to work with and will customize the cart with whatever you dream up.

the pic I originally posted is the Meguiars cart ($149)

with some thanks to Google, I found out Luxor makes those, and you can buy them directly -with- a built in 8 bottle holder for 99 bucks

or without for 90 bucks

Take a look at this cabinet from Lowes... includes a toolbox that you could set aside and use the cart for a nice rolling cabinet. Very sturdy and a great price.

Task Force 33-3/8-in Steel Tool Chest (Red)
Item #: 57447 | Model #: SGY-BOX3
$189.00

I've detailed alot, and as a sure have found that anything made as a detailing cart has been lacking space where "I" need it. For example, some have bottle holders....but I don't use products with uniform sized or shaped bottles.

I keep my detailing products in a big floor cabinet. If working outside, I load what I need on my big plastic HF cart...shop vac, etc on the bottom. I also keep my applicators in ziplock bags..then in a plastic tub...one for exterior, another for interior. So, they're easy to grab.

When working inside, I'll take a smaller mechanics rolling table and use it as a mobile work place. (Also very handy when pulling wheels, etc...somewhere to put the lugnuts, etc)
I like to have a work place....a spot to put things down.

When I used to do on location work, I used a Stanley Fat Max workstation. It has a retractable handle so it rolls like a hand truck, and slides open for a large bottom "tub" area, two compartmented drawers and a top opening compartment. Since I'm not doing remote work any longer....this may be converted for some other use.

In the end, I personally don't have the space for a dedicated cart for detailing. I also prefer to have these things put away where they will remain clean.

I use a Luxor utility cart. I like the flat top shelf because it makes a good place to rest the polisher. The middle shelf can accommodate trigger bottles hanging off the side. I dont recall if the wheels have locks on them (i use it on a flat surface). You can find them on costco's website for $90. If you need measurements or other info, send me a PM (I won't find my way back to this thread).

This thread is great because I've actually been looking for a decent little detailing cart myself. Just something simple to put down my polisher and pads, and hold my polishes/waxes/spray products and microfiber towels. I don't have many products so one of the less expensive HF service carts will probably do the job.

I hate having to make multiple trips back and forth into the garage and nothing's worse than putting a bottle down on the ground and kicking it over with your foot, then chasing it around as it rolls down the driveway!
