Detail Garage

Over the past year I've been getting more involved in detailing, so I figured it's time to redo my garage so that I'll have a nice place to work this winter. This garage has seen many engine swaps and builds and it definitely shows. It's honestly embarrassing that you don't notice how much junk you have until you start cleaning it out, but nonetheless, here we go. After following Matt (www.obsessedgarage.com), I'm definitely inspired to turn my garage into something like the one he has (but much smaller).

On Sunday we took the drywall down and cleaned up a bit. This weekend the floor will be cleaned and the drywall will go up. I'm still undecided as to what type of flooring to go with, so any help would be appreciated!

Congrats on starting the project! I'm doing mine currently as a dual purpose mechanical and detailing garage. Consider some major lighting around the perimeter on the walls. My garage is 18' X 18' and carries 9 4' led lights totalling over 540 watts and 36,000 lumens.

Nice! I'm researching lighting as we speak. Nice STi, btw. I built a BBY Evo 8 last year, but I had a main bearing issue so it's gone!

Hey thanks! Once the garage is done I've got a short block to start building. I love the older evos, not so much evo 10s.

For the floor look at racedeck. I'm getting the tuffshield but if you plan on washing indoors I'd look into the free flow. I just don't like the fact dirt will go through it and get trapped. I know cause I have similar tiles in my workshop in the basement.

I would try to stay away from painted coatings unless you put the sand in them, otherwise it will get very slippery. I know a lot of my detailed friends put the rubber tiles (race deck) down but that can get pricey. Either way it's a fun journey ahead of you.

I'll definitely be following this progress along. Good luck! I would recommend looking at the FreeFlow tiles by RaceDeck. Excellent for applications such as a detailing space, with the water wicking properties of the surface. I recommend them

I went through your thread yesterday and it inspired me to make this! All of the cars were mine or my younger brother's. I definitely miss the R32.

Agreed. I'm having a blast! A little tired but now that it's going back together it's exciting and finally starting to pay off. Your vision just all comes together.

I'm still looking at heating options. I found a portable unit at Menards that supposedly heats up to 1000 square feet so I'll read up on it. I'm in Louisville, KY.
