Determining a Genuine Hakko Fx-888D

Hi,

I've gotten into a power tool repair phase right now and it's gotten to the point that I need a soldering station now. My Weller soldering gun has too much power. I've been looking around on EBay every now and then. I've found a used Fx-888D for a fair price if nobody bids on it. I've heard there are a lot of clones so I'd like to get yall's opinions first. The seller has 0 feedback yet he's been a member since 2013 so I'm a bit hesitant.

I feel like the clone aren't usually outright counterfeit, just look the same with a weird brand name, maybe different connector.

Personally I like the older 936 model, they're square and stack, and they aren't purple.

I think the wand part is the same between the two (and tips).

I wouldn't doubt its authenticity, I just sold my 888D last night for $40 and I thought that was a pretty fair price.

If you have any other Hakko stations that you would be interested in selling let me know.

I love my 936.

Honestly though it is a soldering iron. It is not exactly high tech. There is a decent chance the internals of the Hoko rolls off the same line as the Hakko. They are commodity parts.

As long as the iron accepts the Hakko tips or you are good.

I'm hesitant of zero feedback sellers too; especially if they are selling just the one item. I don't blame you for hesitating. I wouldn't buy it myself.
