My new arrival, 5 HP Devair two-stage TAPV-5052 air compressor. I purchased it from AirCompressorExchange in a package that included a 55 CFM Belair refrigerant dryer, auto drain valve, coalescent and particulate filters. The compressor alone was $1,800.00, add dryer, filters, auto drain valve, and shipping totaled just north of $3,500.00. http://www.aircompressorexchange.com/devair_compressor_page-7-28-05V-2.asp

Devilbiss started manufacturing air compressor in Toledo Ohio in the early 1900’s. Since changed their name to Devair and started manufacturing in Barrie Ontario, Canada in 1950. The 247 pump that is standard on this unit has long been one of their workhorses. A 5 HP 1750 RPM Boldar motor drives the compressor at 635 RPM. And has to be the quietest and smoothest unit I have ever seen. And pumps an utmost output of 19.1 CFM’s @ 175PSI or 20 CFM’s @ 100PSI.

I purchased the Belair refrigerant dryer because of its’ company reputation. And upsized it to accommodate a second 5 HP SpeedAir compressor that will be piped in. Both compressors will be first feed into an auto drain valves before the 100 CFM air cooled after-cooler. Then into a coalescent and particulate filters before entering the refrigerant dryer. Lastly the compressed air will enter an Ingersoll Rand desiccant dryer before being distributed to all five of my garages through underground pipes.

Removed from crate.

FIVE garages?!

I may feel that I live in the country, my house and garages are nesting between two streets in the center of six acres of woods and is hidden from view. Heck there are horse farms and cow pastures all around my property. But the pompous city beurocrates didn’t want me to build one large building. So I skirted around the code and now have five garages totally about 7,000 square feet all connected with concrete driveways.

The ludicrous part about it was I could have built a single 10,000 square foot building if I said that it was for “Horses” rather than “Horsepower!” And wouldn’t even have to get a permit to build it or be governed by any building codes.

Nice! Good lookin' compressor, and 635 RPMs - I bet that chucka-chucka-chucka sounds good. Nice groove.

If it were me, I'd have gotten (1) miniature horse. And then the 10000 sq ft garage. :D

LOL -- my thoughts too . . . city inspector? No problem . . . here's my pony stall, right behind the air compressor . . . of course I've never spent as much on a compressor as I have a project car . . . yikes!

I have extensively researched air compressors for six months before I decided to purchase the Devair.

No need for sound-proof enclosures either. In the 5 HP configuration, I can talk and hear someone in a normal voice right next to the unit. It is not much louder than my Bridgeport running. One more good feature, replacing the 5 HP motor with a 7 ½ HP motor and a pulley diameter change making the compressor @ 800 RPM’s the output will increase to 25.8 CFM’s @175 PSI.
