I am going to go look at a devilbiss pro 4000 compressor tomorrow. The seller says it is a 80 gallon 2 stage 5hp unit. He wants $800.... Over email he said he has had it a couple years and has used it very little.

He said it has the following specs from the book, displacement is 20.1cfm air delivery is 15.5 @175psi unit is all cast iron 2 stage 5hp 80gal upright 220v single phase

$800 is a bit more than I want to spend on a used compressor but if it is a good machine I might go for it...sounds like he might move a bit on the price.

Anyone know anything about devilbiss compressors? I haven't been able to find any info on them.

We've had one of those at the hangar for almost 20 years. It's never given any trouble at all.

I also have the 60gal version at home, absolutely trouble free for 15 years.

They sold a cheap version just marketed as Devilbiss. The quality id about the same as the Campell Hausfeld, Husky Pro and Cheaper IR. The price may be a bit high for that one if it fall into those

Alright thanks... Any idea how to ID the cheaper version? Something on the pump?

After looking at the DV website it looks like many of their pumps are 3 or even 4 cylinder units. I would guess that the cheaper version would be a vertical twin cylinder pump unlike the V pumps on the better ones?

Well I looked at it and it is the one as shown above....but it is really loud. So loud I didn't want to stand next to it. My dad has a compressor from the 60s and it is super quiet compared to this thing.

The air filter on it is really small....would changing this to something different make it any quieter?
