I have a Dewalt 12v Impact driver that is completely useless because both batteries are toast. Do I replace the battery $64.00 or just sell it and buy a bare 18v Impact for $109. I have 4 18v batteries, so it would almost seem to be worth going to all 18v tools.

Is it lithium ion? Or the older one? If it is the older one I would think about getting the lithium one and if you look around a lot of places will take your older one on trade for $25 credit. But I do like having all of my batteries fitting any tool, so that kind of a toss up. My decision would come down to size, if you like the smaller compact impact you wont be dissapointed with the new DeWalt 12V from what I have heard around here, otherwise maybe go with the 18. Personally for $64 dollars I dont see the need to buy a new battery. When I wear out batteries I have either updated to a newer battery style like when li-ion came out, or I buy a new tool with the same batteries as they usually come with 2, the tool and the charger for the price of 2 batteries.

I have two 12V DeWalt drills that have served with distinction and have been looking to pull the trigger on a 12V impact driver. I really dislike managing more than one style of battery and 12V is clearly more than enough for the type of uses an impact driver will see from me. However, if I were in your shoes with a mix of 18V and 12V, I'd certainly consider settling on 18V although it's probably overkill for an impact driver.

Walterchang: check your PM in case you decide you'd like to sell your 12V at some time in the future.
