As you can tell my first power tool set was the Dewalt 14.4 V set. Lightly used and they worked great. Is their any value to these any more? Can you even find a battery?

My guess would be no. I have 4 old Craftsman 19.2 drills/3/8 impact. They were smart in that when the went for NiCad to LiIon they kept the physical connector shape the same. So I could use either battery. But then of course, Craftsman bit the dust so I am now down to 2 batteries. I checked the first time I saw the new Craftsman stuff at Lowes and they are different. I have started buying Makita.

You can still find 14.4 Nicad batteries ,but the new cordless Lithium Ion tools are so much better for longevity, charging, brushless motors I'd opt for new. And you can find adapters that allow you to use new batteries on old tools.

I retired my old 12V DW953 drill, circa 1999, and probably need to give it to someone who could use it, but it's good to know your battery rebuilder link, Bill.

That older DeWalt stuff was pretty good, but I'm so happy with my 20V gear I haven't looked back.

Batteryship.com has a 14.4 Lithium Ion conversion battery and comes with a charger (the charger looks more like a computer power supply than a drill charger). I have one, works well and a nice upgrade. I think DeWalt sells one too.

I still have a few 12V dewalt tools that I love.

I have an old 12v Dewalt drill and impact set that still works great. I like them for their light weight and small size in tight places. I have bigger ones for when more power is needed but most of the time the smaller ones get the job done.

I was able to find knock off battery packs for them on ebay a year or so ago and have been pleasantly surprised at how well they work, just as good as the much higher priced genuine Dewalts.

I'll bet if you search ebay you will find what you need.

I still use the **** out of my DeWalt 14,4 drill. It's the first battery tool I bought. About a year ago I sent the batteries to MTO Battery and had them rebuilt. Batteries last now like they did when they were new. Two batteries rebuilt for about the price of one new one.

I can't find that on the batteryship website :headscrat

the tools are so lightly used like the saw I'd hate to chuck them. Maybe I'll check the battery rebuilder out.

There are frequently replacementa that are NiMH available. They hold a bit more energy but for a homeowner the biggest benefit is they still have a usable charge after sitting for a month unlike NiCd.

Interesting. I have a drill with these and the batteries aren't lasting so well. I'd never heard of MTO, but I'm wondering if it would be worth it to have them rebuilt.

Mine just arrived, for my 14.4 XRP stuff. Only odd thing I noticed, the case is a bit smaller than the old ones, leaves the drill base hanging out about 1/2” in front of the battery.

Since I use mine so rarely, I’m hoping it’s always ready, and I can throw the old batteries on the charger when I start working. That quick charge feature might be awesome. The recip saw gets the most work lately, trimming trees, and ***** the batteries down quick.

I have a lot of 14.4 DeWalt. I’ve had batteries rebuilt and actually have several original DeWalt 14.4 Lithium batteries, which work great, but are really hard to find. I found another large set at an estate sale for the kids.
