this may be a dumb idea....

but has anyone somehow converted the standard 18volt xrp charger to accept Li-Ion battery pack?

my boss game me a few Li-Ion batterys when we switched over to 20volt. i have 2 normal chargers already. didnt really want to buy a new charger for only a few batterys

Only the yellow 18v chargers can be used with liOn xrp packs... The black ones can only do the niCad xrp packs..

liOn packs require circuitry different than NiCad to properly charge. Are you saying he gave you 18v or 20v LiOn packs?

Dont charge lithium ion batteries on a charger unless the charger is marked for use with them. Lithium batteries do nasty things if charged wrong and can easily go up in smoke/flames.

I swore I saw a post like this just a few days ago and commented by saying the new radios charge all the batteries. Just a thought.

Deja vu.

I think it's cheaper to buy a charger for lithium, sometimes look on clist as dewalt stuff is for sale everywhere. Even pawn shops. Maybe you can find a used one cheep. I'm sure a lot of us have a couple of chargers for our batteries that we don't use. I'm a Milwaukee type guy and I have too many chargers.

i assume you mean the new xr li ion slide on packs not the xrp li ion post type packs, as far as i know there is no adapter to fit between the two and the post type packs should not be charged on older post type chargers just the ones marked for li ion, although the post type li ion were very short lived and unreliable(they dont take the abuse the same as the ni cad/ nimh batteries) hope this helps.
