I have the 059 myself.. triggers often go bad in all cordless tools.

You can buy a new trigger and install it, it should be easy.

ereplacementparts.com or a local tool repair shop should be able to help. Even better, you might have a Dewalt Service Center in your area.

first step is to open it up and see if the brushes are burnt up, especially if it was used alot.

If you go to dewalts website, you can get a complete parts breakdown of what you find in there...

plug in the model number, if your sticker is worn off, there is a giude there for finding the model.

good luck

Got a regular 18v cordless drill with the same issue and an 18v grinder with what seemed like a stuck trigger until it slowly died and quit. Also had a sawzall snap in half. Im surprised though, they hold up pretty good around here.

You'll have to open it up and then some quick tests with a multi meter can tell you exactly what's wrong. Once it's opened up plug the battery in and see if you have power on the battery side of the switch. If so move on, squeeze the trigger and see if you have power on the other side of the switch. If so it's not the switch, if not then you can ohm the switch out just to make sure it's the switch. If the switch is good then it's most likely brushes or wiring going to brushes, worst case is a problem with the armeture or the magnet windings.

The brushes (probably dark grey in color and probably square or rectangular in shape) ride against the armature of the motor (flat shiney copper strips all lined up side by side). The brushes are probably spring loaded to hold them against the armature and have a small wire soldered to them, but they will come out.

Here is a link to an illustrated parts list for your drill, this is for type 1 so if your's is type 2 they have that one also but they should be the same, just might have a few different parts so double check before ordering anything. http://www.ereplacementparts.com/de...ess-impact-wrench-parts-c-1009_2333_2786.html

Brushes are spring loaded and ride against the armature. Part 35 in the IPL.

Do you have a mutlimeter and did you test to see where you have power? That should be your first step to rule out bad connections and bad switch.
