I'm in the market for a cordless impact and want the 29v cause I've already got the drill and impact driver. My issue is which drive size to go with

The 1/2 is the compact version (same size as the 3/8) and has 150 ft lbs. the 3/8 has 130. Because they're the same size compactness wise in leading towards 1/2; however I'm wondering if I'll regret that because of the lack of smaller socket sizes available. I guess what I'm wondering is if 3/8 will better cover the range of socket sizes better

This'll be used on a 94 bronco mostly, any input/insight/wisdom is appreciated!

If you're going to do big work, (changing tires, suspension work, ect.) you're probably going to want the 1/2" because of it's power. If you're worried about socket sizes, you can buy a 1/2" to 3/8" drive impact adapter to get smaller sockets to work.

Is this their newest lineup? Did they make make a special 1v cell to get to 29v from 28?

Jokes aside, I'd get the 3/8" if its for general purpose use otherwise 1/2" handles larger stuff better.

Based on my experience with DeWalt 18V tools, I would recommend the 3/8" drive compact impact wrench for general automotive work. I use mine all the time; it has plenty of power for most fasteners that I would otherwise use 3/8" drive hand tools on.

The compact 1/2" drive impact is pretty much the same tool with a bigger anvil on it; if you are dealing with fastener sizes or torque specs that are too much for 3/8" drive, you are not going to see appreciably better performance out of the compact 1/2" vs the 3/8". If you need more power, I would recommend the big 1/2" cordless impact or a good air impact gun.
