Dewalt 402 Grinder experience question

I got this grinder at a garage sale, sounds great but the blade changing lock only locks in the tightening position and spins in the un-tightening position, which means I cant take a wheel off unless I use a big pair of pliers.

I took the head off and it seems like it is purposely built this way,only to lock in one position because the grinder mechanism has ramps on the inside making it impossible to lock going the other way.

Is this grinder built this way? I think I have a aftermarket backing flange but the grinder itself does not have a square channel like most grinders for the backing flange to grab onto.

Maybe built for a very specific wheel?

I took it apart, all teeth there with no signs of stripping. Just wondering if the 402 was meant to only be locked in the tighten position when you press the detent.

The ramps are likely there so it will engage easier. The issue is likely that the spindle lock button is worn, or has stuff stuck under it preventing it from going down deep enough.

probably the wear (ramps)are a result of depressing the lock button while powered up .
those parts are all replaceable.
I bought a larger Dewalt grinder off of Ebay that was jammed , otherwise like new condition. someone powered it up with the lock button depressed and jammed it solid
bought needed parts from local repair shop & in service again

Thanks, this was pretty much it, round cylinder lock is worn because a few good taps with a hammer and pin bring it down enough to lock but just barely grabs the lip to lock.

Well, hopefully this part is replaceable.
