Dewalt 735 planer?

Finally ordered one and got it last week. So nice compared to my delta 12". Trying to decide if keep it sell the delta. Might be nice for real rough work to save dealt blades. That's another convo i guess.

As of right now my dust collection is a bigger shop vac on an auto switch to a bucket with the swirl lid. 2-1/2" hose to a double gated Y. One side to my miter saw and the other for other items. I can flip switch and just use that as a shop vac to clean up in the area, hook to my table saw, router table, whatever.

Here's the real question. I had to try the planer out last week and thus hooked it up to the dust system. The 2-1/2" hose goes onto the dust port adapter that came with the planer, so I ran with it. Closed gate to miter saw, opened the gate for the planer. Thought all was great, area was nice and clean. Looked over and sawdust was blowing out the miter saw. Apparently the fan with the shop vac is too much.

I did some looking and it seems pale either run it into a 55gal barrel with hole cut in top or into one of those bags, which some say fill up way to fast. Any feedback here?

Then I question the hose size. Says 4", but the 2-1/2" connected on the inside of the adapter. Can I use either with the 4" just being more efficient? Trying to decide if I order more of the 2-1/2 which I can use a fair amount of, but will have extra or if I should 100% order 4".

I have a 13" Delta, older model looks like the common 15"cast iron models. I can't imagine using it with less than a 4" line, Just way too much output for a 2 1/2, especially with deeper cuts.

Buy a Shelix head for 735 and really bring it to life. I agree that the 2-1/2 is just too small for a planer that size, 4" and then invest in even a 1-1/2hp dedicated dust collector. Before I had a real dust collector, I would roll my 735 outside and then clean up with a leaf blower when I was done.

I have the 733, and would not dream of running it without my DC1100. It doesn't have the fan, so naturally aspirated, chips fall back , and leave dents. Tried my shop vac, still not enough. I'd like to add a cyclone before next usage, cut down emptying the bag on the DC.

The 735 will drown a shop vac. Best is to put an actual dust collector on it, but with the built in chip fan you can run it with a 4" hose into a trash can modified to be a chip collector. Lots of pictures and YouTube build videos out there of how to do it

I'd like to get dedicated dust collector. Still trying to get layout of everything down. Getting much better.

Been running it today with what I have and yes it's drowning my 5 gallon bucket. Emptied several times already, but it's what I currently have.

Figured out sawdust packed into the gate so it wasn't closing fully. Ughh...

Guess I'll get some 4" hose and figure out from there. I'm thinking maybe a 55 gallon trash can might be the easy answer. At least for now.

Some of the premade cyclone heads fit a 30 gallon trash barrel.

Then you are all set for the DC
