I was in need of a way to turn a socket on the side of the road in a borrowed car a few months ago, and the nearest hardware had just changed over to all dewalt hand tools.

This breaker was less than $10, ratchets started over $20. It did successfully turn the socket to tighten the belt, so it went in the toolbox at home.

Last week we were working on a project beetle, and I was pulling the seats out. Gearwrench ratcheting box on the bottom, this on top on a 13mm socket, and first pull with the GW braced the dewalt twisted and broke.

I'm waiting for the hardware store to open, and get a few minutes free from work, to see about a warranty. Dewalt doesn't have the part number on their site. I'll be asking for store credit or a different dewalt tool.

Two thumbs down, do not buy.

That is pretty lame. If this were as long as the HF 3/8" breaker bar (15-18 inches) this could be reasonable. At the standard length this should not happen unless you used a cheater and you didn't state that you did.

^Ditto

The cheapest option got you out of a jam on the side of the road, hardly seems worth the $10 to go back and try and get an equally cheap tool or a few dollars of store credit.

Store credit would be good for expendables, gloves, screws, weed killer. A lot of people howled when they went to dewalt hand tools and stopped carrying craftsman and williams. I'm sure my few dollars don't measure up to what dewalt paid for the space, but it's a way to get my voice heard.

Update: I stopped by the shop, and they basically said tough luck. I called dewalt, and now there's a proto j5265 on the way.

Just called up, gave the part number, told them I was really unimpressed with the performance of the dewalt tool. I was on hold for about 5 minutes, had to put off two people who walked in to my office, but the lady came back and said she understood I needed a quality product, apologized that the replacement wasn't exactly the same, gave me the Proto part number which I googled immediately, then asked if it would be acceptable and took my address.

Should be in by next Friday, which will be helpful, as I'm having 4 people over to pull, rebuild, and reinstall an old beetle engine, hopefully all in a day.
