I have the same set and I am very impressed. Batteries last forever and is super strong. Got mine using a 25% HF coupon at Home Depot and thought I got a great deal

This is the DCD995, not the newer DCD996. The DCD995 got smoked by the Milwaukee 2704 in every test they did. The DCD996 however is a totally different animal. I've been looking for a good deal on a DCD996 for the past couple weeks. The DCD995 is indeed "GOOD", just not the "BEST."

I believe you are off. The kit contains 2-speed drill driver. You are talking about 3-speed hammer drills (new and older), which are completely different animals. For hammer drills I prefer to use SDS ones, as for having drill in a kit, it's better (for me) to use plain drill driver, it's lighter and more convenient. Though the hammer drills have higher max speed (rotational).
