Ni-Cad, no thanks. Good deal if you only use it a few times a year though!

It is an older style NiCad battery. Great for my purposes. The Lithium Ion batteries are small and are supposed to charge faster, be stronger and not have memory problems. They are also more expensive and not necessary for the casual user.

Home Depot had been liquidating those for $99 the past few months. Wouldn't be surprised if Lowes does the same, must be clearing out old stock for some new model.

My local True Value had them for 99.00 back around Christmas after the rebate and the first of the year.

I have that drill and it's good. I have no issues with the Ni Cad, although I just added some Li Ion to the mix a few months ago. That is a solid way to start an 18V set.

The 18v DeWalts are very good, I have several. Best thing about them is that you can interchange them ni-cad and li-ion with the tools, so buy the closeout ni-cad sets when you can (or bare tools) and use the li-ion batteries when you have them. The yellow charger can charge both ni-cad and li-ion, the black charger is ni-cad only.

Bought one this morning. Thanks for the notify! Older style, lower amp/hr batteries not a factor for close to home/shop work. If you needed to take the thing out into the world and not be near a charger, the larger (and heavier) batteries might be worthwhile. And they will plug into this drill if desired. Drill is good and solid. Good fit/finish. Positive switches/trigger etc. Typical good DeWalt quality.

I'm gonna go drill drywall screws into something...

There's a very good chance ti will drop to $99 right before Father's Day.

Just make sure you know where your receipt is. If it does drop between now and Father's Day, you should be able to get an easy price adjustment.

I just bought the combo kit with the drill and impact driver last week, which included the drill, impact driver, charger, and 2 compact batteries for $169 from Lowes. I have found the compact batteries supplied in the value kits to be quite okay around the house and shop, and I use mine most every weekend.
