Hey gang,

Sunday, I was doing some drilling and my year old Dewalt drill wouldn't drill anymore. The motor would work but there was a different noise that sounded like sand grinding. The chuck would spin but once pressure was applied, the sound would occur and the chuck would no longer turn.

Today, however, it worked fine. I was pissed because I could not find my receipt and pressed the trigger and the weird noise was gone. I tested it and the drill worked again. For how longer .... who knows?

Has anyone had the same problem? Any suggestions to what I can do (even though I cannot find the receipt)?

yeah it sounds like it just got stuck in between settings or something.

My DeWalt drill was stuck on drill (other settings did nothing, and I was stripping screws even on it's lowest setting) until I loosened up the fasteners on the front of the drill that hold the clutch and everything in. After that, it works perfectly.

Then sometimes the gear selector (speed) will get stuck, and I have to kind of move it while the motor is on to get it unstuck.

It takes quite a beating, but it has it's quirks. Yours may just have gotten stuck like others have said.

Yup, that was the first thing I checked by changing gears on the clutch. It may have been an interior clutch problem but I made certain that it was not the adjustable clutch.

It works for now .... hopefully, it was a one time problem.
