I don’t use it in anything other than wood. I have had it a couple of years, but it’s all of a sudden slipping when I tighten the keyless chuck or when under load. Is this a normal wearing issue or did I do something?

What do you mean by "slipping" ??? The chuck itself not holding the drill bit or whatever else you have chucked up ? Or do you mean the "clutch" is slipping ? I cant tell for sure by your picture but it looks like you have it set on one of the "slip" settings. The yellow drill bit symbol on the chuck should be aligned with the arrow on the body.

The yellow drill bit symbol is a hammer drill function I've been told.

Unless it's set to 13 or higher it does this:

The drill bit symbol is the drill. On mine a hammer symbol is a hammer drill. The numbers are torque settings for driving. They have a slip clutch that limits the torque. It's supposed to slip. I found mine to be somewhat useless when doing real work, like driving screws into studs. Use the drill for drilling, and get an impact driver for driving.

Whoever told you that is wrong. The drill bit symbol is what you want if you don't want to use the clutch.

FWIW, my last Dewalt started that ****, and after a short time it would slip regardless of where the clutch was set. It got so bad it was pretty much useless. It was getting pretty well used anyway, and was gonna need batteries soon, so I just replaced it. I don’t know what model, but 1/2 inch hammer drill.
It may be a thing with the brand.

Here is the manual

Here is the chart of clutch functions. I'm pretty sure this symbol needs to be "up" At the noon position to be selected. If it's slipping on the drill or the hammer position your clutch is gone sideways. If it slips on the 1 to 15 that's to be expected hopefully not as much on the 15 as on the 1.
