Just bought one yesterday. If you are in the midwest, Farm and fleet has Dewalt bare tools on sale for $35 off. Picked mine up for less than $100 out the door.
I have the original 18 volt 1/4 impact DCF 825, and this thing is light years ahead of that one! There is just no comparison between the 2. This one will literally drive a 2" drywall screw so fast on setting 3 that you almost fell like it's out of control. I did buy the 18 volt adaptor kit for my 18 volt tools that had 2 2 amp 20 volt batteries and the adaptor. These batteries did give the old tools a new breath of fresh air and I figured since I already had the batteries and charger I would splurge and get the 887 since I use the 1/4" impact the most. I also have the 1/2" 18 volt impact 820 for working on lug nuts.
The 820 struggled even when new on taking lug nuts off with new batteries. The Ni-Cad batteries just **** so bad, and when I put the 2 amp 20 volts on this tool it made it work so much better. I was able to take off all 4 wheels on my car without it even working up a sweat. With my 18 volt NiCads, the battery would be dead after 1 wheel and it had no power to break the lugs off.
I think the DCF887 is actually stronger than the 1/2" DCF 820 and will have no problem with lug nuts. Don't be scared of the 2 amp smaller batteries in the adaptor kit, they last sooo much longer it is worth the price. Then you can slowly work your way into the 20 volt line and buy bare tools like the 887! LOVE IT!
