Hopefully this has happened to someone here and you figured out how to fix it!

I have a bit stuck in this thing and it's not coming out. Not even using a vise and a 24" pry bar!

The problem is that the bit retention spring has somehow slipped and it sitting on top of the bit.

Anyone else?

Yeah maybe 3 bucks. It's the principle of the thing. I sort of pride myself on being able to fix ANYTHING. I'm sort of known for that around here.

Impossible to take a pic really. It's too small and too hard to get the right angle. Probably gonna take a torch to it and see what happens. Amazing how many things you can fix with a blowtorch. Rusted fasteners, bad welds, undercooked food, cats. The list is endless!

I might try shaking it backwards with the impact while prying it out at the same time. I can imagine that having a chance to work. Good plan!

Well, I guess I forgot to come back and mention it, but you were right. I put the impact on it, in reverse, while the bit was clamped in the vise, and it came right out. That's the trick!

No doubt, either the holder or the bit (or both) were distorted from over-torquing them.

I've had that happen on a Mastercraft 18v Impact and a Mastercraft 1/4" bit holder. That stuff is somewhat modest quality.

That's why I don't use cheap bit holders, anymore. At least yours jammed in the bit holder and you didn't have the bit holder jammed in the impact collet, like I had.

I have a few of those. You may not be aware, that holder is not impact rated but they do make a couple of different impact rated bit holders. It still should have been OK, if your bit was decent quality.

Was it a DeWalt bit?

Yeah it's not an impact rated bit holder for sure.

I just took a pick and removed the little spring/c-clip thing so it can't happen again. I don't even know why it was in there in the first place. The magnet holds bits just fine.
