We have both at work. Unless you specifically need the 12"....I'd suggest the 10" for various reasons.

OTOH...If you insist..looks like they have another 12" model at an even better price. Same saw except that apparently it has no sight light. (not a feature I care about) For 150 dollars less, you might not care either. ;)

The typical sale for these include the $200 stand. I think that is a better deal.

I got the Flexvolt version of this saw for $574 shipped a while back, came with batteries and the 120v power adapter. Called after I received it about the stand promo and they shipped me one for free.

What 10" would you suggest then? Seems the comparable 10" model is the DW717 and it's $100 more than the 12" saw you linked above.

Probably should of said I prefer the 10" over the 12", but I wouldn't be basing my decision on the price. I'd still like the Dewalts 10" or 12" Didn't mean to throw a wrench in your search for the best price on the 12".

Well on Thursday I bought the DWS779 for $399 - $50 from an online coupon then bought the Dewalt stand with wheels from Home Depot for $199. After tax and all was around $580 total.

This morning I returned it all.

Home Depot has the DWS780 with the rolling stand for $599 - http://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-1...olling-Miter-Saw-Stand-DWS780DWX726/203068921

So for about $50 more that what I paid for everything on Thursday, I got the DWS780 with the XPS system. Without this promo the XPS system would have been much more expensive.

The difference from the link above and the one @electroman187 posted is this promo is for the rolling stand (not the fixed stand) and really is $599 and not $798 as the slickdeals link shows for me.

i think it's a good deal. i'll tell you this, you wont find a more accurate saw. not in that price range. the way you square in the dewalts is how they all should be, but only the dewalts have the feature. i LOVE my dewalt slider. best purchase i've ever made. squared every angle in 15 mins, vs. sometimes hours with other saws.

btw i have a 10 inch saw, not a 12, but they all square the same. 320 is a good deal for a slider, IMO.

for comparison my 717 which is a 10" i got for 300 which is a smoking deal considering they're normally 500. if it's what you want, get it.

Do you adjust every angle or just 90 degrees and the others fall in place?

I hopped on this deal also and got it all together last night.

to adjust the 90 degree dewalt is very simple and smart. instead of moving the fence to the blade, you place a small square (i used a 4" machinist square) on the fence and to the blade, and loosen 4 screws at the front of the table and adjust the saw/blade to the fence (the fence never moves). very smart, very slick. took me all of 30 seconds. kinda like a lathe.. you don't adjust the chuck to the tooling, you adjust the tooling to the chuck.

for adjusting the miter (90 degrees to table) just place a square on the table, loosen a couple screws and turn the proper screw until its square. tighten and recheck. same with the bevel if i remember right (my bevel was dead on at 45 degrees out of the box)

squaring, double checking, and double checking again, and smoking a quick marlboro i was in for about 15 minutes. the only thing that will replace my saw is another dewalt, i'm sold.

How smooth is the slide on this model? I'm really tempted to pick this up today.

After I bought my DWS780 I seen discussions about the Type 1 and Type 20 differences and the slide might not be as smooth on the Type 1 vs the Type 20. However I have the Type 1 and have no issues with the slide at all. Granted I don't have the Type 20 to compare but am happy with what I have.
