Dewalt FlexVolt

Anyone see this yet? Variable voltage batteries, up to 60v per battery and some 120v dual battery stuff.

Guessing they basically take a normal pack and run the cells in series or parallel depending on the use. Sort of an interesting idea.

I like the idea of 4x the run time on a 20v tool. Wonder what those will cost...

Interesting concept.the run time is great for existing 20 volt tools i would say since its new technology theprice point will be high but if becomes proven contractors may jump on it.im happy with my d ewalt impact its been trouble free.but its out dated

I thought it was a great idea at first.. now I just think it's gimmicky.. with the exception of a few new tools, they aren't really doing much that Milwaukee hasn't accomplished with their 18v platform.. I'll admit I like the idea of a cordless tablesaw, but thats about it..

It's just a 6amp hour battery on the 20v tools.. nothing more.. you can get the 5.0 batteries without having to spend money on this..

True, but the value lies in their use as a 60V. It's a waste buying it to use as a 20 alone. You buy one of the 60V tools and now that battery is also good for the 20v tools. It's really a bonus for buyers of the 60/120v tools rather than a significant upgrade for owners of just the 20v tools. At least that's how I view it.

I'm pretty sure the Milwaukee fuel Powerstate motors ARE 60v A/C motors.. so your not really upgrading to anything other than a sticker and some good marketing if that's the case . Not sure about Dewalt's brushless setup on their drills and impacts - but I'd suspect it would be similar..

Again I'm not 100% on that - but if that the case all Dewalt did was eliminated some electronics in the tools and wired 2 seperated circuits in the batteries instead.
