Dewalt hand tools

A friend of mine sent me a picture of a set of a Dewalt socket and ratchet set he saw on display at Sears. Anyone know the scoop on that? Are these types of Dewalt hand tools new for them and why Sears? Competing with Craftsman?

i've seen various dewalt hand tools at HD and uh, maybe lowes too, i don't remember... i haven't looked too closely at them, i think they are MIC but i'm not 100% sure on that. i have other companies i'd rather get hand tools from, so i just stick to dewalt's power tool line.

Sears has been the exclusive provider of the new line of Dewalt Mechanic's tool sets since early Summer 2013. They look to be excellent quality and are all 6 point sockets, which are much better for high torque situations and will not round-0ff the bolt edges.

I have been very tempted to pull the trigger on the Dewalt 204 piece set, but don't really need more sockets. Most of the Craftsman sets available now have only 12 point sockets for the 1/2" ratchets, which makes no sense at all.

I bought a set of dewalt ratcheting wrenches and the 200 something piece socket set several weeks back when they were on sale at sears.

It is simply another brand that sears is offering, just like one may walk into a sears and buy gearwrench or a viper tool chest

These tools are exclusive to Sears. They're made overseas, but I think they compare quite well to Craftsman's mechanics tools. Possibly not the older USA-made Craftsman Professional wrenches and higher end ratchets, but they feel on-par or better than the newer imported Craftsman equivalents.

You can feel up some of the tools in-store. To me, the ratchets felt a bit too weighty for their short lengths, but quality seems alright.

I just saw some in the Sears today. They looked pretty nice, about the same as the old Craftsman Professionals.

You guys have to handle those DeWalt ratchets in person before buying. They have some extra weight heft to them for the shown size. They are heavier than most ratchets I have handled.

Agreed. They are also on the short side.

I'm on the fence as to whether I like them or not. On one hand, they've heavier, on the other hand, that extra weight gives them a sense of bulletproofness.

Now the question is are the Dewalt and Bostich wrenches sold at wal mart the same?

The regular and ratcheting look VERY similar. They both look like the Mac Precision torque wrenches. They are Taiwan made I believe.

I have the quarter inch set and I love it .the ratchet is heavy and smooth as silk.can't say about durability yet ,it's only been a month but seems good.the box is cool with swing away socket individual holders.mine was free but I will buy the 204 now.

That seems unlikely. Unless something has changed, Dewalt's mechanics tools are currently Sears exclusives.

Wouldn't it make sense if Sears only sold 2 lines of Craftsman? Say one side of the tool department is just Craftsman made in china and dirt cheap. The other side for Craftsman pro with all the made in usa bullet proof stuff.

Yeah it's Bostitch at wally world not dewalt. I've seen some dewalt hand tools like pliers and screwdrivers at the HD or lowes, but only Sears carries the "mechanics" tool line.

They're finished well, purdy lookin' things. But I didn't like how they felt in hand. Too thick, too heavey, and the mechanism didn't feel good on the one I tried. The craftsman "premium" ratchets feel much better.

It's a good deal for Sears because they don't have to handle warranty exchanges. That's handled by mail with no money coming out of Sears' pocket.

I just think if I was back in my box slinging a ratchet every day, these heavier DeWalt ratchets would wear on your wrists after awhile.
