not exactly what came to mind when I read hydraulic impact. I was thinking burndy, Stanley, fairmont. But this is an interesting concept. I will have to see if I can find one local that I check out.

Ave tore the ridgid hydraulic impact apart. Overall I took it as he saw it as a gimmick.

One thing I did hear is that the oil would get hot (seems like the concept) is a good idea.

I think they should make them myself - Dewalt that is.

I have the Milwaukee surge and it’s the best driver I have ever used. It is faster than a fuel impact driving 4” #10 screws and it is very quiet. I’m not sure what the limit on what it can drive compared to a regular impact but I think anything it can’t handle will have a hex head on and can be driven by a cordless impact driver with 1/2 or 3/8 drive

After hearing my brother in law's regular Makita impact driver, the sound it made was more than I wanted to deal with, so looked at some videos online. I don't remember actually taking in much of what the reviewer was saying, but really wanted to see it being demonstrated. After buying the oil-pulse model and driving deck screws it really is pleasantly quieter to the point that you don't need ear plugs. The biggest effect the oil has is right when the anvil hits, the sharp transient sound is more spread out in time and assaults the ears much less.

This unit is rated for 355 inch pounds of rotational force. The regular brushless drivers from Makita list ratings between 1400 and 1550 in lbs. That looks like a big difference on paper, but it easily drove every screw I needed, including some 8" long SPAX construction screws and smaller Simpson lag bolts. There are 4 power settings: Soft, Medium, Hard and an auto adjusting mode. 95% of the time I use Soft and it has enough power to easily set a 4" deck screw. The other modes will drive it faster, but I like the better control, especially when contending with Philips head screws.

For me, it's a great option that I appreciate. YMMV. Luckily YouTube is a click away.
