1/2" high torque brushless 20v impact DCF899HP2 bought from amazon one month ago was just brought into my office by one of my workers to show me it failed. He could hold the socket from moving with the gun set to the highest torque. This gun saw heavy use for about two days then occasional use. It worked great until today.

Has anybody had to warranty a dewalt tool that was bought from amazon?
How did you go about it?

If only bought one month ago, wouldn't that fall under Dewalts 90 day money back guarantee?

I bought an air impact on Amazon that I did not like and returned it to Dewalt through their 90 day money back guarantee. I had to take it into the Dewalt repair center locally and Dewalt eventually mailed me a check. i think it took close to 2 months to get the check, but they honored their guarantee. If he's still within his Amazon return window, that would be easier and faster.

Amazon is set up pretty good for returns. You click a few buttons and they email you a shipping label to print out. It helps to save the box the product came in.

I don't understand this? :confused:The 899 has a 3yr warranty! What gives? I get all of my DeWalt tools through my brother who happens to work for Stanley/B&D and he told me that if I have repair/warranty issues to go through him and he can designate it as "internal" or some such and it will be faster service. I don't have a single receipt for any of my tools as my brother "paid for them" but he can give me cc proof if I have to get it.

I think when one buys something off amazon like that it has the option for some sort of additional warranty (on the side).

Not sure if it was on this, but on high dollar ticket items would be worth the extra money (since the seller) generally does not have any assistance in this area?

Those are third party warranty companies like Asurion. You deal with them exclusively, not Amazon. They have tons of fine print, I wouldn't pay a dime for their "added coverage".

Did not know that good info - does not sound like a good outfit to deal with for sure.

This is a shop owned tool. We bought it to use on a structural project as an additional impact then it was to be a regular shop tool. Packaging is long gone. I was impressed with the power before the structural project. We used it to loosen 1-8x12 bolts torqued to 450 ft.lbs. on a dennison P24 pump. Since it has failed to get other stuff apart. I messed around with it yesterday. He was right, it didn't have much power. I tried different batteries (that wasn't it), torque switch, knocking it around a little. Thru some combination I got it to change. I was able to remove 3/4-10x13 bolts torqued to 350 ft.lbs. on a dennison P14 pump. We will see if it has more issues.

This is what I was wondering. If it was possible to deal with the manufacturer even though it was bought an amazon.

On the bottom where the battery slides on is a date code. Dewalt will warranty it based on that.

I like my Dewalt and Bosch, but the local ( and high priced) hardware store owner did say that Milwaukee is much easier and faster to deal with than Dewalt.

I can't imagine why buying it off of Amazon would have anything to do with it at all.

If it was brand new it should have a manufactures warranty contact the manufacturer they'll tell you what to do with it

Exactly...why post a thread for this? Just contact DeWalt.

Confusing exchange policy with warranty policy?

Many items have a note in the packaging to contact the manufacturer rather than the retailer.

Amazon and some of the box stores have liberal return policies that confuse the issue.

My local hardware store owner tries to help his customers by stepping in on behalf of the customer to expedite to warranty claims, but he is probably not obligated to do so as part of his retail sales agreement.

I had a cordless Dewalt hammerdrill that had the chuck screw shear off using an auger bit. It was only like 6 month old at the time.

I took it to the service center only looking for the screw, but they told me to just leave it there and we'll check it to make sure everything is okay. It was ready in a few days. They never asked for my receipt or anything.

I'm not sure on Amazon, but Home Depot has a 90 day return period, beyond that it's on the manufacturer. Just contact Dewalt and I'm certain they'll take care of you.

Because buying off Amazon is a a old fashioned way of buying tools from the horse and buggy days with no service, and this thread just confirms my view.

if you buy from a more modern brick and mortar store or a or the even more modern tool truck vender, you just give the tool back to them and they will look after you.

The business that sold you the tool has to deal with the manufacturer, not the purchaser. It just buyer beware when it comes to purchasing from Amazon.

Good thread, because there are better options than Amazon for purchasing work related tools

Warranty is from the manufacturer, not the seller.

If you buy a new truck with a warranty, you can go to any dealer for that brand. Not like you have to take it back to the dealer you bought it from to get it fixed under warranty.

OP - I would call this number - 1-800-4-DEWALT - and go from there. They should be able to answer your questions.

I have no qualms buying a tool from an Amazon or other online vendor. And I have bought plenty And if it's a new boxed tool normally the OEM warranty starts from the purchase date with receipt. Of course used or recon tools are a bit different warranty are limited in duration like recon or go by serial number manufacture I never had any warranty service refused because of POP.

So with new you usually have the major two options already outlined a purchase return window with reputable sellers or use the factory warranty. You must have had an operator's manual with a new tool normally all the warranty and service info is right in there.

I know RED issues you a ship label online just drop it in mailbox
