Dewalt Mechanics tool set

Saw for the 1st time an ad for a Dewalt Mechanics tool sets, sold exclusively at Sears. And was curious so I looked and looked all over the internet to find any info on them . But I couldn't find out the Country of Origin on any site that reviewed them. Can anyone fill this in for me? Is this the new line Sears is going with ? Is "Craftsman" going out to pasture? All I was looking for was a moderately priced fairly complete setto put in a gangbox on a jobsite so the crew has some hand tools . Price was $249 for the 204 piece set with the Shop your way rewards member card seemed reasonable.

Taiwan. There's a thread here with pictures. I looked the the end cap display at Sears and although the long combination wrenches looked nice, the ratchets seemed heavy and bulky. I'm thinking rebadged stanlet.

Sears sell many brands. I don't think it's a Craftsman replacement line, just something else for sears to sell.

There are many tool lines of Asian origin out there now that are very serviceable and affordable. Several are obviously rebrands. The DeWalt ratchets look suspiciously similar to Titan (Northern Tool) stuff, as well as some of the Pittsburgh Pro stuff from HF.

With so many choices like Duralast, Pittsburgh Pro, Kobalt, Northern Tool, etc., just buy what you like the looks of and is being offered at the best price.

There really ain't that much difference in any of 'em unless you want "The Cadillac of Asian Tools", then go GearWrench.

And yes, I've got some of ALL of it (except the DeWalt).

I was looking at the flyers in the Sunday paper and saw these today. Who are these marketed at? They are priced higher then a craftsman set. This is so *** backwards it isn't funny. Sears has continuly cheapen their tools to "compete" and they roll out a more expensive line, what the ****? **** like this is why I havn't bothered to go to sears in well over a year.

I think Sears is still trying to find it's way. Still.

I didn't check out the DeWalt warranty but for Taiwan made tools they seem quite nice.
My guess is the mkt. is DeWalt fanboi's who buy into the cordless and corded tool fold.

Of course they will scavenge from the std. Sears buyer but the price may turn many off.

Business Sense 101 is not in full effect at Sears these days so all bets are off.

The ratchets are pretty unique really. My Sears has the Dewalt stuff on lockdown. You have to "see an associate" to get them off the shelf. I'd like to open one of those rats up to see what's going on in there. I really figured we'd see rebranded Blackhawk, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

There are some cosmetic differences but, I think the Dewalt line might be a rebadge of the "Expert" line that Stanley-Proto-Mac has.

I know a dewaLt fanboy who will be itching to buy a set. he cant get enough of them. Looks like nothing special to me. there are enough Asian tool companies. I would go with kobalt if I were to buy Asian. I own a few gear wrench products. They are well made but I try to keep my Asian tools to a minimum.

ok...marketing works. If I could afford new tools, I'd buy the DeWalt stuff JUST for my construction trailer to use on the jobsite. (Framing Hardware etc)

This is the reason. Even the average homeowner knows that the "Pros" use DeWalt power tools...........now they can too! It's all in the name.

Gives the buyer another option. It goes with dewalt/stanley to expand a high end consumer hand tool option with the dewalt name. They have the pliers and chisel out for a year now. Milwaukee is pretty much doing the same, they have pliers out now.

Well i gave them another look over today and walked out with a set of the sae wrenches. I needed a set for my go box and these honestly felt better than the gear wrench combos and both being made in Taiwan it was a toss up that came down to feel. I'll compare them to my snap on and my usade raised panels after class this evening

Impressive specimens.... Although the pic is pretty bad lighting in the shop isn't exactly suited for chrome photography.



They are slightly longer than their snap on counterparts similar weight nearly identical in all measurements. heighth width with length being a bit longer on the dewalts.

I can get better comparison pics later on if anyone is actually interested.

There is no comparison to the "new craftsman" combination and these. I'll take the dewalts all day. Not a bad pick up at ~50 bucks for the sae set.

I bought the 204 piece set for school. The 1/2 inch drive ratchet was junk out of the box. In reverse, the selector switch would change to the forward position. At first, I thought that I was somehow hitting it with my fingers, but it the selector was doing it on its own. I didn't have this problem with either of the 1/4 or 3/8 inch drive ratchets. A new 1/2 inch drive ratchet is on the way from Stanley/Black and Decker.

Called Dewalt and told the lady on the phone my problem. She asked me for a mailing address and model number for the ratchet. She told me to expect a new one within seven days.

I'm a ratchet diva lol So the dewalt rats weren't on my radar, but after a few weeks with the wrenches... I kind of dig them, not quite snap on but, when I'm away from my cabinet with my line box these guys are nice.

I just bought the 156 pc set on a black Friday special for $84 otd for use as a travel tool kit. The 3/8" ratchet was defective out the box (real rough in one direction). DeWalt shipped me a replacement ratchet via overnight mail so I can't complain too much. The box wrenches are very nice compared to most others out there.

I wouldn't pay much more than the $84 I got it for though, I still prefer paying a bit more for SO for my main stay tools over any Asian made tools.
