I have to replace my corded drill it is narrowed down to 8.0 amp dewalt or 6.5 amp craftsman professional Sort of leaning to the craftsman but saw the dewalt at hd anyone give me insight on the two both are about the same cost.

I have an older (90's) US-made DeWalt corded drill. I don't know the amps, but that thing is absolute beast.

I am sure both are probably made in china now. I am a craftsman diehard but have been straying away recently. I do not use the corded drill much but is nice to have if needed. The one that gave up is a old school craftsman but it is beyond repair.

Absolutely go with the Dewalt. Much better chance of working for a long time than the Craftsman. Craftsman are all over the place on quality and durability. They change specs and suppliers so often that you have no clue what you're getting.

Dewalt at least is fairly stable in their design/quality.

I really like my DeWalt corded that I bought a year or so ago. It was a definite upgrade from my 20 year old Bosch, and better than any Craftsman I ever owned.

I would buy a used USA-made drill on CL. Look for a DeWalt or Milwaukee, keep clear of Crapsman. You might even snag an AEG or Metabo. Corded drills are one of the best deals going.

Another vote for looking around before buying new. These are SO common as nobody wants to use a corded drill anymore.

Plus why bother with 3/8"? Might as well grab a 1/2" and never worry about bits not fitting.

Ebay is full great deals on 3/8" and 1/2", and your local CL will likely have some too.

ps... avoid anything that plugs in built by Craftsman (total shet).

You are willing to stray away from Craftsman :shocking: Your pal Ponchoguy would be so ashamed of you!!!

I have the cheapo dewalt with keyless chuck. It works fine, bought it cheap as a loaner/trunk drill. Otherwise I use a old 3/8 hole shooter.

I have a Dealt that I mainly use when I need to drill a bunch of holes, so I don't go through my batteries too quickly. It is absolutely solid.

What I have found is that the DeWalt products just feel better in my hand. Much better weight/balance,

I'm sure you'l be happy with your choice.

So far i am pretty impressed and pleased with it. Liking it way better than i thought i would. I have never been much of a dewalt fan but figured it was time to test the waters so far so good. And you are correct it does feel very nice in my hand and has way more power than the old craftsman.
