Torque Test Channel just did a full review on this 5ah Powerstack battery yesterday, link below. And it looks like he just bought his on Home Depot website.

TTC Powerstack Video

Cliff notes:
  • The 5ah PS is actually bigger and heavier than the current 5ah XR battery! Not by a lot, but a little. It's just shaped differently. The PS is shorter, but also has a larger footprint. He measured them by volume of water displaced and the PS displaced more water. But it was definitely smaller than the current 6ah XR. Mass was also slightly higher than 5ah XR, but less than 6ah XR.
  • He tested voltage drop, and the 5ah PS had less voltage drop than the 5ah XR, but more than the 6ah XR. Roughly the same as the 6ah Flexvolt battery.
  • Max torque on a high torque impact was around 50 ft-lbs higher with the 5ah PS than with the 5ah XR. But a hair less max torque than what he got out of the 6ah XR.
Interesting video though for anyone who wants to know more about these, I definitely recommend watching the whole thing. My takeaway is that the technology does in fact seem to deliver on more power and less voltage drop, but I'm not sure I'd run out and pay full price for them. The 6ah XR's are considerably cheaper, and performed as good or better on every test than the 5ah PS. Only tradeoff is that it's about 0.5 lb heavier.

I think if the size of the Powerstack was actually less than the 5ah XR, then the value maybe starts to add up more. But to me it seems like the value equation on this one is: do you want to pay to have 6ah XR performance with a 5ah XR size/weight? Is that size difference worth it to you over the extra 0.5 lb?

the other video on YouTube drilling wood while measuring voltage voltage show it in real world use. That guy has a chainsaw one as well. Looks to tool dependent, some tools won’t make a difference and in others it will.

So to update a good long term test of dewalts powerstack batteries, which I will say I didn't baby them. As much as I tried to like these, they ****,I really can't say anything good about them. They seem to go dead faster, and I see no advantage over any other battery. Sure they're a little more compact but other than that I wouldn't recommend them, I'm actually taking them out of service, just not worth it.
