I have wondered where are folks coming up with all the new Dewalt tools NIB sold at flea markets and on FB and CL. I see folks with dozens of boxes of new tools selling cheaper than you can get them in store. Just curious more so than anything. I wouldn’t think they are getting them wholesale.

I've wondered the same thing. Around here they will often have a selection of some Milwaukee & ryobi products also.

I figured they've found "friend" working the back door at a HD warehouse lol. But they usually have a big spread of tools so I doubt that's totally possible.

I have seen the same thing and wondered also how it can work out. The ones I have seen don't list the individual price for what they are selling so I haven't taken the chance to see if they actually mark them up from retail and count on people not checking. That is one suspicion I have.

Pallet sales. Whole pallet of tools at a fairly cheap price, break down and sell individually for profits (if you can). Some people will also stock up on things like black friday sales and sell later for close to retail, this seems to happen around my on Craigslist when early december I will see shots of a stack of like boxes.

Often these pallet sales have barely used (and at other times, virtually destroyed) returns or defective tools that are then sold on the open market to the highest bidder. These individuals then take the good tools (hopefully) and sell them on FB Marketplace or Craigslist. You can get some good deals if you keep your eyes peeled.

More nefarious individuals will, of course, either steal these items from the stores or open up a credit card and buy thousands of dollars worth of tools and never pay the credit card back. Then they just sell the tools locally (or pawn them). These are the people that you want to avoid.

A lot of this stuff is made in China where "3rd shift" production is common.
When the factory is closed they make additional, unreported items that they sell through "Unofficial" channels.

Stolen from HD & Lowes, been obvious for many years. Havent you seen the cages over the red & yellow tools at most HD's now.

Some may have whole sale accounts and buy in bulk. I sell automotive products and a small selection of tools to "wagon jobbers" and they sell how ever they feel fit.

Yup, there are 3 levels of HD theft. Someone stealing one or two items trying to get around the security devices. Shopping carts full with or without security devices walking out the door. More covert operations like taking a bathroom vanity out of the box, loading up the box with tools, buying the vanity for few hundred with few thousands of tools inside.

Just look at CL, offerup, classifieds a few days before the end of the month and you will see tons of fresh stolens at incredible prices so people can pay rent on the 1st.

Stolen. HD/Lowe’s employees aren’t allowed to stop thieves so they just calmly walk out the door with the kits.

Then the store passes the costs incurred on to us.

I'd heard stories about this probably 20 years ago. Not sure there is much validity to it now especially with the giant manufacturers due to the value of the production contracts. Most co-own their manufacturing facilities as well.

DeWalt is also largely assembled and packaged in the US and Mexico, not so much China.

I went into my local Home Depot a few weeks back to pick up a new M18 grinder. They were cleaned out. Literally. Someone had come in the night before, taken a pair of bolt cutters from the hand tools section, cut the locks on the Milwaukee tool bin, and loaded up one of those flat carts with every tool in the store and walked out.

Stuff like that makes me unwilling to purchase stuff off of CL and the like.

Most of it is from return auctions. Many store chains don’t restock returns as a policy due to liability and the shell games scammers play returning old/broken items as new. Instead, stores palletize returns en-masse and send it to a weekly commercial auction. I know quite a few resellers in that business, and enjoy patronizing them for both food and silly items like cleaning supplies. New tools don’t interest me much but I do know a guy specializing in that niche too.

And yes, I did say food. Grocers regularly end up stuck with full cartloads of food when someone’s EBT or other card doesn’t work or folks run out of cash, and they usually don’t restock.

According to Joe Exotic on Tiger King, at walmart any deli-packaged meat item (steaks, hamburger, chicken, etc) that leaves the cooler will never get put back in the cooler by store employees. The walmart near their zoo kept that meat separate and donated it to their zoo for the animals......unbeknownst to walmart all the zoo employees were also living off the same meat meant for the animals. Can't believe I'm quoting Joe Exotic.

I buy the larger sets of dewalt cordless tools when I can get them on a deal and then sell off the pieces.
I have not done too much but am on my 5th kit I'm breaking up since December.

The stuff I buy comes from legit dewalt dealers that sell on eBay and on their own website

He’s right. I worked WM grocery side while in college. Sealed non perishables like peanut butter, canned goods etc were restocked but deli, meats, produce were marked down and tossed for food safety. Even had someone return a watermelon duct taped back together.

We tried to hold close dated stuff or bruised produce that we pulled for the food banks and shelters but half the time they wouldn’t come get it.
