Dewalt vs black & Decker cordless?

Sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't find it.

Since b&d owns dealt is there a big difference?

I was looking at drill / impact combos on Amazon and the b&d looked just like the dewalt (20V each) but dewalt was more the double the price

yes there is a lot of difference,they are owned by the same company but that's where it ends.b&d is low end diy and home level while dewalt is more for pros.

Correct. Many years ago (around 1990?) Black & Decker was failing in commercial/industrial side of of the power tools business even though they had good products. B&D at the time came the the conclusion that professionals were not going to buy tools with the same branding as electric can openers. So, B&D took an obscure radial arm saw division and used the branding (DeWalt) in their professional product line. (There is a Harvard Business School Case study on this that was widely used as part of core marketing in many if not most good MBA programs for many years.)

But to answer your questions, you get what you pay for. With a few exceptions now and then that seems to be pretty consistent for power tools. However, a lot of the goodness you get with DeWalt over B&D is durability. This may be irrelevant to you if you use your tools infrequently. If you are a heavy user I would not waste my time with B&D stuff.

I had to use black and decker cordless drills and saw at work for a few years. The battery would not last very long. We would have to replace the battery in less than a year of moderate use. They would not hold a charge very well. They were cheaper up front, but more expensive and not very productive in the long run. I would never personally buy black and decker power tools.
