Dewalt vs. Milwaukee Electric Impact Wrench

Gentlemen,

Help me decide between the 1/2" Dewalt DW292 vs the Milwaukee 9072. Both are excellent wrenches. The Dewalt boasts 345 ft. lbs./7.5 amps and is an old tried and true design. The Milwaukee has 300 ft. lbs. and VARIABLE speed/torque (100 to 300) and is 1 lb. lighter.

So.......will I enjoy the variable speed torque more or the extra 45 lbs. torque?

Having never owned one of these, I have no experience to assist the decision. When, if ever, would the variable torque be useful?

I know they both will work for my occasional general auto work. Anyone have experience between these two?

Thanks! No need to discuss other brands (I think), cordless models, etc.. And, yes, I know......Snap On rules with everything they make, so no need to remind me that.....again.

I have a v28 Milwaukee that's supposed to be rated at 325 ft lbs. I'm very disappointed with it. It can't possibly be putting out that torque. So even though it's not the same thing , I'd suggest staying away from the Milwaukee.

I have no experience with the Dewalt DW292 corded gun, however I have cordless DeWalt Impact gun model: DW059K-2 and if the corded gun is anything like it's cordless cousin, I'd say it would be a good buy. Didn't have any problems breaking the lugs off of the cars and the thing is an absolute lifesaver at times.

I have the Milwaukee 9072-20

-5yr compared to 3 yr warranty
-quick lok cable (easier to store)

I do like the Milwaukee Corded & cordless impact wrench trigger control-
Very responsive. In fact, its so responsive to touch that I really don;t bother using the VSR dial.

I would compare the triggers between the two.
The 9079-20 has a switch for F&R while the Dewalt as a f/r rocker
The 1 less pound may make for better power:weight ratio
I've always been skeptical about manuf. Max ratings-
Those numbers always seem to be more theoretical than "real world" application.

Milwaukee also sells a model w/o VSR but has the F/R rocker trigger.
