I was planning on getting my dad a 20v impact and drill set for fathers day and I was pretty set on the DeWalt set but I found out Lowes is going to have a sale on the Porter Cables tomorrow. Are the Porter Cable drills and impacts worth getting? Any better sets than the DeWalt for under $200 if the Porter Cable is junk?

Farm & Fleet had a Porter Cable set for $120.

Or just the drill for $100.

If I had an immediate need I would've bought them. I almost did actually.
But they'd just sit and the batteries would go bad eventually :(

porter cable is not what they used to be. From Lowes, the dewalt, hitachi, and Bosch would be better options. But if he is an occasional user, the porter cable should work fine. More serious, I would go with the bosch.

The porter cable 20v stuff is essentially dewalt 20v stuff. Maybe not up to the same spec but they're basically ford & mercury. The PC version of a tool will never be the top end version.

If you have it narrowed down to those two for sure, go with dewalt. you get a lot more tools. Granted, the PC 20v stuff is still pretty new, but that's what I would choose regardless.

Well iam not the OP but i did purchase 20v porter cable about a 1.5 years ago. . I have milwaukee fuel stuff at home. Was in need of something for work. Iam a millwright at a manufacturing plant. Its a dirty nasty job so didnt wanna pay top dollar for good tools. Went to lowes porter cable was on sale for 110 impact driver and drill and 2 batteries (the red ones). These things have surprised the heck out of me. They have bee burried in sand multiple time fell over 40 to concrete and still work flawlessly. If you can find porter cable on sale they are definitely worth it. I also bought tje grinder and sawzall...
