I just had a weird experience, bought a Dewalt 20V cordless grinder DCG412B and being a good doobee I decided to go to their site and register it. I went to their registration page and put in the model # and it didn't ask for the serial # but claimed I was registered. So I called their support Phone and talked to a very nice girl that informed me that they don't register their products anymore, you have to keep your receipt and that is how they cover the warrentee. So if I accepted the page that said I was registered I would be screwed because I never keep receipts unless there is a reason. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

They will warranty without receipt but they will go by manufacture date rather than purchase date. If the manufacture date is within the warranty period they will repair/replace. Obviously it is much better to have a receipt as the manufacture date was likely way before your purchase so with a receipt you will get a full length warranty, but just wanted to mention that people may not be totally out of luck if they don't have theirs.

The receipt won't last that long anyway if it is thermal paper. Take a picture of it and email it to yourself so you can search for it down the road

Good to to know on the warranty. I knew that folder full of tool receipts mattered...somehow lol I've always kept Tools and Toys receipts just in case. mike93 you ain't kidding on the paper type. if it's flimsy I'll make a hard copy on the printer and stick it in with it.

Some stores automatically register with the manufacturer when an item was sold.
I had this experience with a Magnavox TV purchased from Target.
The TV stopped working, I had trouble finding the reciept, I called up the service number and the guy on the telephone new exactly when and were it was purchased.
I don’t know if smaller retailers do this, but major stores like Home Depot etc. might.

Let's just say that this sounds odd to me. Did the Customer Service Representative say that Dewalt was going to change the registration page? As in eliminating it, so that others don't make the same mistake you almost made in thinking your cordless grinder was registered.

She didn't say anything, I've had cordless Dewalt, mostly 18v for many years and I still use some of my original small black batteries. And I believe the only failure I have had is one of my 3/8 drills quit. Other than that I can't remember ever having a problem. So this wont effect me buying them, but I thought it was a dirty trick.

Personally I've had extremely good luck with everything I have bought in my 65 years so I don't pay a lot of attention to warranty's and I've never paid a penny for those extended warranty offers. Because of that I tend to throw receipts away, but with the quality of some of the products on the market today I think I need to start paying more attention.

Had to come back and update , This purchase started because my son bought the Dewalt 20V "cut off tool", since he bought it I have used it more than he has and it's a really nice tool. But it was billed as a "CUT OFF TOOL" so I didn't want to put a grinding disc on it because I figured it didn't have the guts for the heavier abuse. So when they came out with the DCG412B Grinder I jumped right on it. Just had the 2 side by side yesterday, they are both DCG412B, looks like I REALLY need to pay more attention.
