What would you guys buy?? The older, tested, proven durability, versatility and power of the older NiCad Dewalt XRP line of cordless tools? Or the newer, lighter, but more expensive Milwaukee M18 line of tools?

I'm looking at getting a drill, impact driver, recip saw, and angle grinder. I don't really care about the circ saw and light.

I'm no fan of the low qaulity dewalt stuff. my brother inlaw is a contractor and his dewalt drill chuck loosens up and the 1/4" impact had the trigger stop working twice because its spring loaded and uses 1 spring for the trigger and foward reverse switch. and it had to be rebuilt once. Junk.....300 bucks, 2 years, and its ready for the trash bin. Go with the M18

Last November I found the M18 impact driver and compact 1/2" drill at Home Depot for $250. It came with two low profile Li-Ion batteries. These are great tools - they're powerful, lightweight, compact and the batteries last. When the 3/8" and 1/2" compact impact wrenches were introduced I purchased a 3/8" replacement anvil from Milwaukee and basically swapped out the 1/4" hex anvil to make a cordless 3/8" impact for garage use. Then I bought another 1/4" hex impact (tool only) for $70. The basic tool and motor is the same so you can make different tools from one!

Now that they came out with the high torque M18 with 450lb-ft of torque I want that! I also want to get the high output battery which is larger, more powerful and lasts longer.

Never had Dewalt cordless but I'm really happy with the Milwaukee. 5 year warranty as well.

I have both and the li-ion milwaukees are much better, i liked my dewalt stuff and i have alot of it but it will slowly be replaced by milwaukee. The best part of the li-ion batteries is the charge time, 15 mins and its fully charged opposed to the dewalt witch is an hour

Dewalt now has XRP Li-Ion batteries. I just bought an impact driver and it's 18v Li-Ion batteries are backwards compatible with their older 18v tools - I didn't realize this at the time , but they work in an old cordless drill and circular saw I have.

Milwuakee has always been a better power tool. But I have only own two Milwuakee products, a 12" Miter saw, and a recip saw Sawzall. The Milwuakee Miter replaced a Delta Miter Saw that was stolen from a jobsite. However I've own and use 12V DeWalt drill and a screw/impact gun and and never had a problem with either them. I will say that DeWalt did seem to feel cheapened once they became widley available at Lowes, Home Depot, and Costco. I have a 14V Delta cordless drill that got used the most when I installed windows for a while.
