Diagnose my vice!

Came back from being away and found my York vice with a big dent in the back and when I start to unwind the vice, the handle rotates out for around 5mm before it engages the outer jaw of the vice and starts to open. Same when I start to wind the vice in after opening - it'll take up the 5mm slack before closing the jaw.

Obviously someone's abused it, but how can I fix it so there's no slack? It WAS a brilliant vice...

You can see the 5mm-ish slack before it starts opening the jaw:

Dent in the back and also the pin at the top has come up:

Any help on whats happened / how to repair would be much appreciated!

Check the retainer ring behind/ inside the dynamic jaw.

Some have a set screw that can slip.

Probably this^^^^

You can see the screw head has huge backlash, so it has to be whatever is retaining the screw inside the D. Jaw.

Then track down the yokel that pounded on the thing... :wtf:

Looks like it was dropped, flattening the plug and pushing the screw forward. Ken.
