I bought one of the little ELM327 modules from Amazon a while ago. I've been using the Torque app on my phone and it's been working just fine, but I'm looking for a little upgrade.

I have a Nextbook 10" tablet that runs Windows 8. Not RT, the full version. It has bluetooth as well.

Does anybody know of a Windows program like Torque that I can use with the ELM27? I have tried ScanXL, but I haven't been able to get it to communicate with the ELM327.

I have tried a couple Android emulators, but my tablet lacked the horsepower to run them very well.

I'm also just thinking about buying a cheap Android tablet and running Torque Pro.. It'd be nice to have in the car for multimedia purposes too.

Depends what vehicle and what your looking for. I use one for ford's that's open source. Works great as a code reader data logging etc. But I only know of this one working for fords.
You can try and see if they have something in the links or on their forum forscan.org

I think you are going to find a lot more options for Windows 7 - as the world has kind of shunned that dud of an OS that is Windows 8

with Microsoft, they made a good operating system and then a dud alternately as in:

98 - Me - XP - Vista - Windows 7 - Windows 8

see the pattern?

Primarily for use on my Mazda, but I would like it to work on a variety of models.

I agree that Windows 8 isn't all that great on desktops, but it runs pretty well on a Tablet. Seems like they tried to design it around touch screens.

Well...if it runs from the pcm/ecm it's not going to be that accurate so little more than window dressing. Doesn't make sense right? But true. Ends up being window dressing.

My advice is to avoid the data logging when you're driving unless you upgrade the sensors you choose to monitor. For turbo applications that run a boost controller monitoring is important (of the first oxygen sensor(s)) to prevent lean condition, but otherwise it don't really mean that much because these programs aren't capable of writing calibrations (as far as I know) which means you can know the values but not make any changes to the calibration.

Don't be a number nerd, the ambient temperature of your intake don't mean s*it while you're driving unless you got a frost gnome blowing air in there. I have an aeroforce interceptor btw so I'm a complete hypocrite but I also have the hardware to do calibrations so double edged nerd sword on my part. Some guys run dumb but possibly necessary stuff like meth but it's rare for street cars. If you're running nitrous you probably have better equipment, rather you should even if you're running a 50 shot.

I'm not trying to knock you, just trying to tell you to use this stuff for diagnosis if there's a problem otherwise enjoy driving the car when you're driving the car, don't be looking a digital displays trying to get your throttle percentage to maximize your miles per gallon. I used to do this, it's soul killing.

Diagnosis was my intended purpose, not for any tuning or performance. Just reading codes and monitoring sensors, more than anything.

I did get a kick out of reply though.
