Jsackin is correct about CS osbourne being best hog ring pliers. I have tried all types. the placement of hog rings in tool is perfect. I have all three pliers made by Osbourne. also my job is mainly leather kit installs in new cars. so cutting hog rings is best option.speed is important, when you have to install in 6 to 8 cars a day. I use pliers or Stanley air-powered hog ring gun , to fasten covers to foam. I have used kobalt,crescent , and other diagonal cutters over the years. everyone has had some issue. my next tool will be either knipex or NWS. I like both designs. thanks again to everyone for input. my hands will also be greatfull. Auto trimmer

+1 on these. Those are the ones I use, long handle for good leverage. They cut thru everything

The channel locks ARE good too the Fanuc tech loves them. I have Knipex stuff and I really don't care for them. Someone want my Matco labeled Knipex long needle nose?

Where is the best place to get NWS pliers online? I assume there are not any local retailers carrying them in northeast Wisconsin. I always thought they were gimmicky and overpriced but now I feel like I need to try them.

I wanted to thank everyone for their help. I decided on NWS 138-69-200 Fantastico Plus Heavy Duty Lever Side Cutter 200 mm. I love them. hogrings are no match for the cutter. I can cut all types of hogrings with no damage to cutter. also the grips are easy on hands. also a guy who comes to my companies shop, had a pair of knipex cutter. I was able to use before purchasing my cutter. I'm now glad of my decision. thanks again Auto trimmer
So I'm gonna try the same pair Auto trimmer did. All the raving about Knipex on here was what got me to buy the Alligator or Cobra or whatever it is that Mac rebrands and I love those. And the cutters are my next most used pliers after the Knipex.
But just two questions. The websites show different handles from the NWS catalog, I'm guessing the pictures that are on, say, Chad's toolbox are the new style? They seem more streamlined and, well, ****. And is Finish 49 really worth that much more than Finish 69? They both look nice, but I don't really see a need for chromed pliers. Any advantages I might not be thinking about? Anything you can say to make me spend more money? I just need one excuse to feed this monkey...
And if I like these as much as I hope I do, it looks like all my Craftsman Pro pliers are gonna get taken back to my home box. Damn you Garage Journal!

The knipex and NWS are nice cutter can't really go wrong with either. The 49 is a esd spec tool, the 69 is a standard spec tool. So if you are working on circuit board, the esd spec will prevent static discharge to the board. If you do not need esd, get the regular 69.

Far and away the worst diagonal i've ever used. And i got 2. The jaws are formed so that they meet at only the tip (i had to get 2 to confirm this-im baffled). Impossible to cleanly cut a piece of wire or rope. Total garbage.
So i use them to pull cotter pins and when i need to beat on a diagonal with a hammer.
For cutters I have cman, channellock, 10" knipex, and the NWS fantasticos. The fantasticos cut much easier than them all, incl the larger knipex, due to their design
The NWS chrome finish is very industrial as you can see and also quite thin; Knipex does nicer plating for sure. Although the plating is removed from the cutting surfaces from use, it's holding up fine otherwise- no giant flakes coming off.
edit: 49 is plated finish- not ESD.

I recently grabbed a couple of NIB Diamond Horseshoe Brand diagonal cutters off of flea-bay.
Good quality and quite inexpensive too.
