Looking for a diagram of how to wire a circuit with the line coming from the panel to a series of 3 to 4 lights and then to the switch. This is basically to make a more direct run because the panel is on one side of the garage, the lights in the ceiling and the switch is 30' on the other side. Could obviously run to the switch first but that seems inefficient. Is there an easier way?

Use 14/2 from the panel to the first light fixture, then 14/3 between the fixtures, then 14/2 between the last fixture and the switch. Wire nut the black wires together at each fixture all the way to the switch, use the white wire at the switch to go back and feed the last fixture, then use the red wires in the 14/3 to go back and feed the other lights.

Suggest you continue the 14/3 to the switch. Use the black as the feed and the red as the switched leg. That way you will have a neutral in the switch box if you never want to use a timer etc.

Agreed!

Depending on code you need a neutral in the box with the switch anyway
