I may not be 100% correct on this, so count on the posts that follow to correct what I have gotten wrong. Here we go.... Unless you have a special certificate or license (issued through the EPA) to do R-12 work you cannot legally work on an R-12 system, or you will be subject to heavy fines issued through the EPA. Even if you were certified or licensed you would still have to have and use the machine that reclaims, or collects the R-12 so that it is not released into the atmosphere. I think I have just described the rules as they were 3-5 years ago. For all I know you may not even be able to legally do any kind of R-12 work at all anymore. :wtf: I think you had better turn that thing over to me before you get yourself into a peck of trouble doing R-12 work since I still have a case of one pounders set back and do my R-12 work with the door pulled down and on the qt in my garage!:lol_hitti

I do not know if the tool in question can be used for either R-12, OR 134.

I used to work in a shop with one of those dial-a-charge units. Only good if you are using large cylinders and esentially useless. We never really got it to work like it was supposed to.

R12 had different fittings and adapters than the now allowable R134 systems. A vehs. AC unit can be refitted to accept R134 after the R12 has been pulled off and reclaimed. I know we had to get all new equip for R134 for our ranch fleet of vehs. and equip.

I think you could use it with R134a if you get the correct fittings. An ounce of R12 is NOT equivalent to an ounce of R134.

R12 sales for automotive systems were pretty much banned around 7 years ago. You can still get it smuggled from mexico though. Lots of trouble if you get caught.

I know about R12 and R134a legality and all that stuff, that wasn't really my questions but thanks anyways

I am going to be using it with 134a, I basically need to now what an ounce of R12 equals in terms or r134a

So are you asking how to compensate for the difference in the graduation on the side of the device? Kinda like converting standard measurements into metric......yes?

If that is what you are asking, I got nuthin for ya!

Find a Robinaire dealer where you live. All the parts should be available and may be interchangeable. Just order what is needed to convert to r134a.

This may not be a very cost effective option. Good luck.
