Dial-Back timing light w RPM recs?

I bought one of these and found it to work nicely but the dial-back feature was DOA. Confirmed this with the mfgr. No matter where I set the 'advance' the light stays put. Summit is taking it back, no big deal, but made me wonder if I should replace it with same or if there's another option. I work on a few older cars without degree'd pulleys on them and with unreliable tachs so I very much want both RPM and dial-back functions. I have a plain old timing light too.

Any suggestions ? Most of the reviews for the Innova are good and I liked their customer service so I'll probably give them another shot unless someone has a better idea ?

I've had this conversation with some professional engine builders who've tried most every brand and say they haven't found one which they trust. The good news is on older stock engines the precision of the readings aren't as critical as on top-tier racing engines.

Are you sure this does in fact work with the MSD? When I spoke to tech-support they were pretty honest that the most frequent problems they run into is the light not flashing at all / having issues with aftermarket ignition systems. When I told him it was not dialing back he didn’t hem or haw at all and said yeah that’s definitely internal just send it back but we don’t see that often. For that reason I am somewhat inclined to try another one.

Nothing is for sure. Just going off questions/comments on the Summit site.
