I have the chance to buy a 150mm Mitutoyo dial depth gauge, cheap, I'm just wondering if this has any advantage over a dial calliper and the depth rod? The calliper is Definately more versatile.
So should I go for it or save my money for a nice dial calliper?

The depth gauge will be more accurate than the calipers in most instances because of the larger base but if you don't think you'll need the precision the calipers would be more versatile.

If your a machinist then the depth gauge would be of use. If your a mechanic that is mostly checking nominal depth then dial calipers would be fine. When you get to the point in your trade you need them, you will know.
